Cupar will move forward with an arena upgrading project thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
Today, Andrew Scheer, Member of Parliament for Regina-Qu’Appelle, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, and Glen Hart, Last Mountain-Touchwood MLA, announced funding for a recreation project that will create jobs for the community.
“I’m pleased to announce our Government’s support for Cupar’s arena upgrades,
” said MP Scheer. “Investments such as these are creating jobs, while ensuring that Cupar residents have access to the recreational infrastructure that will serve the community for many years to come.
”
Funding of $41,333 for the project is provided through the RInC program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. The province will provide matching funding while the community will provide the balance of the funding for a total project cost of $124,000.
The upgrades include constructing a replacement wall and repairing lower portions of the arena wall. These upgrades will increase useable space in the arena and prolong its life by further protecting the interior of the facility from weather damage.
“As many Saskatchewan communities are growing, there is a need for infrastructure investment that contributes to the health and well being of Saskatchewan people,
” said Hart. “With this funding, the recreational needs of Cupar and area will be met and will continue to move Saskatchewan forward.
”
“It is absolutely fabulous to see both the Provincial and Federal governments blending resources to invest in recreational upgrades,
” said Don Jeworski, Mayor of the Town of Cupar. “Our town is extremely appreciative of their assistance and knows this is exactly what our community needs to propel things in a forward direction.
”
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities. A total of almost $153 million in federal RinC funding will be invested across the four western provinces by Western Economic Diversification Canada.
