Government of Canada Invests in Rosemary’s Recreational infrastructure

December 18, 2009
Rosemary, Alberta

Rosemary Community Agricultural Society is moving forward with renovations to the Rosemary Recreation Complex thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

Today, LaVar Payne, Member of Parliament for Medicine Hat, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding that will strengthen Rosemary’s recreational infrastructure and stimulate economic activity.

The Rosemary Recreation Complex renovation project is a reflection of our Government’s commitment to stimulating the local economy and improving the quality of life for residents,” said MP Payne. “Through our Economic Action Plan, this investment will create immediate jobs, while providing residents with a facility that will serve and strengthen our community for many years to come.

Funding of $60,384 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

"We are very grateful to receive federal funding to upgrade the Recreation Complex, especially during this difficult economic and financial time." said Anita Morishita, Secretary of the Rosemary Community Agricultural Society. "The renovations to the Complex will ensure the community has a proper facility for recreational gatherings as well as encourage local residents to get physically active and lead healthier lifestyles."

Federal funding is providing for extensive upgrades and repairs to the Recreation Complex, such as renovations to the kitchen, seniors and north rooms as well as the installation of stairs to access the Zamboni room. Additional upgrades include repairing the building roof, eavestrough, air exchange system and enclosure of the mezzanine. The improvements to this valued piece of recreational infrastructure will enhance the functionality of the Complex, reduce the costs of future repairs and provide residents with opportunities to take advantage of the recreational services offered by the facility.

The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.  A total of almost $153 million in RinC funding will be invested across the four western provinces.
