West Shore Parks and Recreation Society is upgrading the Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“These exciting improvements to the Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre will ensure our community has access to the modern and essential infrastructure we need today and in the future,
” said Minister of State Gary Lunn, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.
The centre’s popular fitness and weight training centre is being expanded from 251 square metres (2700 square feet) to over 690 square metres (7,450 sq ft) and will feature areas for stretching, aerobics, weight training and physiotherapy. Upgrades also include a new studio for aerobics, yoga, pilates and dance.
Funding of $724,900 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“The WSPRS Member communities of Colwood, Langford, View Royal, Highlands, Metchosin and the JdF Electoral Area are delighted to be partnering with the Government of Canada to develop a much needed community facility. The expansion will give our citizens access to purpose built spaces for fitness and wellness activities in a central, modernized location,
” said Linda Barnes, CAO of West Shore Parks and Recreation Society.
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. In total, Western Economic Diversification Canada has approved 718 RInC projects that will use all of the funding available in the West. These projects are helping provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
