Today, the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, provided opening remarks at the Western Canada Aerospace and Renewable Energy Industry Day to demonstrate the Harper Government’s continuing support for Western Canada’s dynamic and growing aerospace, defence and renewable energy sectors.
Our Government recognizes the importance of these sectors in creating jobs and stimulating economic growth in Western Canada," said Minister Yelich. "
These types of industry days are key to connecting western small- and medium- sized businesses to major industry players."
The Industry Day allowed western Canadian small-and medium-sized enterprises to network with representatives from Lockheed Martin and discuss key opportunities in the aerospace, defence and renewable energy sectors. The event also allowed small-and medium-sized enterprises to establish valuable business connections to remain nationally and internationally competitive. Investing in innovation and creating new business opportunities for Canadian aerospace, defence and renewable energy firms today will mean a stronger and more competitive Canadian industry in the future.
Since 2006, Western Economic Diversification Canada has made significant investments in projects and initiatives that support Western Canada’s aerospace and defence industries. These investments have resulted in exciting new opportunities across the West, creating jobs, providing training and research benefits to industry professionals, and improving the productivity, innovation, and safety of aerospace technology and equipment.
Over the coming months Western Economic Diversification Canada will be hosting several events to highlight how companies can take advantage of industrial opportunities. For more information about one of these upcoming supplier development events, or to register online, please visit www.wd.gc.ca.
